I always leave Mass on Sunday feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready to start the week. I'm always thankful we made it.(Now getting there, well that's another story!) I'm usually humming the closing hymn in the parking lot and discussing what we are going to do the remainder of the day. Most weeks I walk away with something insightful, something I want to remember.
This blog is a great way to connect our "happenings" with so many people, but my main purpose is my connection and storytelling with my girls. I want them to be able to go back and look at these post and see a storybook of their lives, of our life as a family. I also think it's a great way to offer thoughts and suggestions that they might want to read as they grow up. So here it goes...
Dear Molly, Kate, and Lexi,
I have a joke for you. A mom and dad had two sons away at college. One weekend while visiting their sons, the dad suggested they go out to breakfast on Sunday. The boys were thrilled for the treat to breakfast. In walking to the car, the dad suggested driving by the Catholic church to see what time the Masses were so that they could plan accordingly. The oldest son, who was carrying the keys, quickly threw them to the younger brother and said, "You drive!"
The sons obviously didn't know where the church was. This was the joke Father Dave gave during his homily today. I thought it was super cute. He was speaking of the new school year, the changes that occur and how many are embarking on a new phase in life. He spoke of prayer and one's relationship with it. He challenged us as parents to ask ourselves, how strong is your prayer life? Have you modeled it for your children? Well, my prayer life sure isn't perfect. My relationship with God sometimes isn't perfect. I could model it better. Father Dave also assured parents this. If your heart is close to the Lord and your child is close to yours, then have no fear, your child is always close to God. Whoosh...that makes me feel good! Because, I definitely don't know everything, and I sure don't know every teaching of the Catholic Church. But I do know one thing. I know God loves me, hears me and always wants me to visit. I leave His house happy. So girls, just remember this, "Knock and the door shall be open to you"(Matthew 7:7). I don't think you will regret it!
Love you always and forever,
Mom
